Walton Photo Competition

A monthly competition for all standards of photography

It’s a bit of fun, with a bit of learning about photography thrown in

A few years ago on Facebook, just as a bit of fun, I ran a few monthly competitions where I would take pictures of buildings, signs, places and spaces etc. of Walton and publish them on the local FB page. Members of the group would then guess what or where it was. It was just a bit of fun, and there was a really good response.

As many of us are now stuck at home or restricted to an hour of going out, I thought I would create a competition where anyone with a camera can join in. As before it will be a monthly event, but this time you take the pictures of a given subject and they will be judged by a professional photographer and the winners posted on this site and the Walton & Hersham FB page. It is just to get people in the Walton area to use their creative skills. There is no cost involved, just have some fun with photography.

The rules are simple

  • Sign up below so that I know you are interested.

  • Images must be taken between the first and last day of the month (a bit of a late start for January I’m afraid)

  • Take between 5 to 10 images associated with the month’s subject

  • Submit the images following the instructions sent to you. I will be using Dropbox for the first few months, but you do not need to have a Dropbox account to participate.

  • The results will be judged by myself and another photographer, with points awarded for interpretation of the subject, and quality of the image. The favorite top 10 images will be published on Facebook and this website. And ….thats it!

The most important thing is that you enjoy it. No stress, just fun.

The competition for January will be “Photograph The Ordinary”.

Pictures of everyday life in and around Walton. If any of you are on the Facebook site of “Memories of walton, hersham, molesey” (and if you are not I recommend you sign up), there are often images published of people from many years ago, just standing in front of a shop, or buildings or cars and it is a fascinating moment in time. It creates so many questions.

Well that is what this months competition is going to recreate. A snapshot of Walton “doing the ordinary”
